Urbanìta is built entirely on other people’s open data, open source software, and open fonts. Here’s everything it relies on.

City content

Summaries, descriptions, and photographs come from Wikipedia, available under CC BY-SA 4.0. Every result links back to its source article. City classification (deciding what actually counts as a city), the key facts, and the “On film” list are all powered by Wikidata, also available under CC0.

Film

“On film” lists films whose narrative location or filming location is the city, queried live from Wikidata and ordered by how many Wikipedia editions cover each title. Every entry links to its English Wikipedia article. The list is only as complete as Wikidata's editors have made it, so plenty of films set in a given city won't appear.

News

“In the news” headlines come from the Currents API. Urbanìta only shows the headline, publication date, and source outlet — every headline links out to the original article on the publisher’s own site.

Map

Map tiles are Esri's Light Gray and Dark Gray Canvas basemaps, © Esri — sources: Esri, HERE, Garmin, and OpenStreetMap contributors. (They were CARTO's Positron and Dark Matter until CARTO began requiring an API key.) The map itself is rendered with Leaflet, an open-source JavaScript library available under the BSD-2-Clause license.

Type

Set in Young Serif and Work Sans, both served by Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
